Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

156 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education when a school (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid a grant it applied for in May 1996 in view of the fact that the school expected to be paid in January 1997. [8698/97]

I take it the question relates to the devolved grant scheme under which national schools will receive a basic grant of £2,000 plus £9 per pupil to carry out improvement works to their buildings, services and furnishings.

Arising out of industrial action in my Department by members of the Public Service Executive Union, there is a delay in the payment of the devolved grant.

Consequently, I am not yet in a position to say when the grant will be paid. However, I can say that every effort is being made to resolve this dispute and to pay the money as quickly as possible.
