Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Courts Service.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

237 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Justice if Ballyshannon, County Donegal, is listed as a District Court venue; if she will provide funding in order to ensure the continuation of the court; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9128/97]

The District Court at Ballyshannon, which had been sitting in rented accommodation at the Abbey Centre in Ballyshannon, was closed following a recent court case in Milford, County Donegal where the issue of planning permission for rented accommodation was raised by a local solicitor.

Following consultation with the Attorney General Orders were made transferring sittings in 16 District Court areas, including Ballyshannon, to dedicated court facilities. Ballyshannon sittings were transferred to Donegal town.

Donegal County Council has referred the question of planning permission to An Bord Pleanála and I am awaiting its decision in the matter.
