Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

289 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid a suckler cow premium for 1996 in view of the fact that the non-payment is causing financial hardship. [8984/97]

The herd owner applied for suckler cow premium on 16 animals and cattle headage on 17 animals. At an inspection it was discovered that eight of the animals listed on the application were absent. There were eight other undeclared animals presented in place of these. The herd owner was notified that he would only be paid on the animals which were, (1): listed on the application and (2): present at inspection.

He appealed this decision. The evidence put forward by the herd owner in support of his appeal requires detailed examination. This is now being done. The herd owner will be notified of the outcome of the appeal as soon as his case has been fully examined.
