Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Mental Handicap Services.

Pat Gallagher

Ceist:

87 Mr. Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) asked the Minister for Health the amount of extra funding allocated for the development of services to persons with a mental handicap in the Midland Health Board area in general and particularly in counties Laois and Offaly in each of the years from 1993 to date in 1997; the nature of the services provided by such funding; and the number of people in counties Laois and Offaly who have benefited as a result. [8873/97]

Recently I approved an allocation of £550,000 to the Midland Health Board for the provision of new residential respite and day care places in 1997. Details of the precise services to be put in place will be agreed by the regional mental handicap co-ordinating committee in line with the priority needs which have been identified for the region.

The allocation of additional funding to the Midland Health Board during the years 1993 to 1996, and the number of places provided, are set out below.
