Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Public Health Hazards.

Declan Bree

Ceist:

97 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that on 25 September 1996, Deputy Bree made written representations to the Western Health Board regarding a public health nuisance and hazard in Derryvunny, Corrigeenroe, County Roscommon; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that in a reply to Deputy Bree, dated 10 December 1996, from a person (details supplied), it was confirmed that water sampling from the area indicated a high level of faecal contamination; and if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that to date the health board has failed to take any action against the person responsible for the pollution. [9210/97]

Limerick East): I am advised by the Western Health Board that the matter the Deputy refers to relates to a problem caused by outflow from a septic tank in the area. Officers from the board's environmental health department are in contact with the person responsible who has agreed to undertake remedial work to alleviate the problem. This work is expected to be completely shortly.
