Vol. 477 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Chris Flood

Ceist:

114 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education the reason the provision of the physical education hall at Killinarden community school, Tallaght, Dublin 24, announced in 1995, has failed to materialise; the reason for the delay; the current position with the architectural planning process; when the tendering process is expected to commence; the expected construction start-up date; the expected duration of construction; the expected cost of the project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9370/97]

Officials in my Department's post-primary building unit have met recently with representatives of the school and the design team appointed to undertake the architectural planning of the project. The Department is generally satisfied with the proposals presented and the design team have been instructed to proceed with the developed sketch scheme.

At this early stage of the planning process it is not possible to determine when the actual construction of the proposed PE hall will commence nor the duration of the contract.

With regard to the cost of the project, it is not the policy of the Department to divulge such information at this stage as to do so could adversely affect the tendering process.

Ceist:

115 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education the reason the provision of the physical education hall at St. MacDara's community college, Willington Lane, Dublin 6W, announced in 1995, has failed to materialise; the reason for the delay; the current position with the architectural planning process; when the tendering process is expected to commence; the expected construction start-up date; the expected duration of construction; the expected cost of the project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9371/97]

The present position is that architectural planning of the new hall is proceeding and when a number of amendments have been made to the outline sketch scheme, the project will proceed to stage three which is the developed sketch scheme. It is not the Department's policy to issue details in relation to costs in advance of tendering, as this may affect the tendering process.

The project will continue to be accorded a high priority in my Department and every effort will be made to ensure that the planning is completed as quickly as possible. However, it is not possible at this stage to say when construction will commence or the duration of the construction period.
