Ceist:

154 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the estimated cost of staff in his ministerial offices, such as programme managers, advisers, support staff and other such related costs for 1997; and the comparative figures for 1993 and 1987. [9330/97]

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett):

The total cost of non-civil and other such staff costs attached to my office and that of my predecessors, for each of the years 1987, 1993 and the estimated cost for 1997 is as follows:

£5,783	£45,812	£54,505

It should be noted that the costs indicated for 1993 and those estimated for 1997 are shared jointly with the Department of Defence, reflecting the dual ministerial responsibilities of the portfolio.
