230 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education the way in which the primary sector of the National Parents' Council is funded; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9853/97]

The National Parents' Council at primary level receives an annual grant from the Exchequer. I have been successful in securing an increase in the grant this year from £75,000 to £90,000.

I consider it desirable that the council should have sufficient resources to develop its capacity to discharge its responsibilities in a competent manner and I will continue to seek further grant increases as resources permit.

231 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Education the way in which the secondary sector of the National Parents' Council is funded; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9854/97]

My Department makes an annual grant to the National Parents' Council for the purposes of funding its activities in relation to the second-level sector. The amount of the grant is £90,000 for 1997.
