Vol. 477 No. 5
258 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Justice the ratio of gardaí to the general public for each divisional and sub-divisional area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9843/97]
The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed deployment of Garda personnel resources to individual areas and they have provided me with the information sought by the Deputy on a divisional basis as set out in the following table. I understand that in determining the level of resources required by each Garda division and district they take into consideration a number of factors which would affect the level of personnel required in each area. These include crime trends, population and demographic change etc.
It should be noted that the details supplied are based on the 1991 Census of Population and Garda divisional strengths on 31 March 1997.
