Vol. 477 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mobile Task Units Redeployment.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

77 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Finance the locations where he will redeploy members of the mobile task units if he pursues his policy to reduce the number of units from four to three further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 58 of 8 April 1997; and the cost of centralising the units. [9786/97]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that there are, at present, four single mobile task units in County Donegal, located in Letterkenny, Bridgend, Donegal and Ballyshannon. The proposed centralisation of three mobile task units (MTUs) in Letterkenny, with the resultant loss of one unit, will give rise to surplus staff. It is not possible to identify the locations where the actual surplus will occur until the reassignment of staff to the new centralised location in Letterkenny is completed.

The commissioners will, however, endeavour as far as possible to minimise any disruption to staff concerned by redeploying any surplus occuring in the northern or southern part of the county within the same county region. The only cost envisaged in the centralisation of the MTUs in Letterkenny is the payment of removal expenses, where appropriate, to relocated staff where the transfer would justify a change of residence by reason of such factors as difficulties in travelling to and from work.
