Vol. 478 No. 1

Written Answers. - Employment of Non-Nationals.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

201 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice whether a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 is entitled to work as an au pair in Ireland. [10728/97]

The person in question as a non-European economic area (EEA) national is required to be in possession of a work permit if intending to work in the State.

While work permits are matters in the first instance for the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, I understand that it is not the normal practice to issue them in respect of non-EEA nationals who wish to enter the State asau pairs.
For immigration purposes, the person in question is also required by law to register with the Garda Síochána if intending to remain here for a period in excess of three months.
