Vol. 478 No. 2
73 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht his policy, if any, regarding the establishment of an Irish Academy for the Performing Arts. [10854/97]
Both the PIANO and FORTE reports, which were commissioned by me, recommend the establishment of an Irish Academy for the Performing Arts. The Deputy will appreciate that while this is an issue of cultural significance the question of establishing such an academy is primarily an educational matter and will require consultation with my colleague, the Minister for Education.
I have already had discussions with the Minister for Education and it is considered that the best way to proceed with an examination of the issues involved is to establish an inter-departmental committee.
