Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

114 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid his 1996 sheep headage in view of the fact that the delay has caused severe hardship. [11004/97]

The person named was paid £1,150 on 11 November 1996 in respect of 115 mountain breeding ewes under the 1996 sheep headage scheme and he was paid a top-up of £115 in respect of the same animals on 5 December 1996.

Due to complications in processing the person's 1996 area aid application linked to additional lands claimed in that year, payment of a further amount due under the sheep headage scheme has been delayed. These have now been resolved and payment of the balance due amounting to £935 will be made within the next few days.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

115 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be paid her 1996 special beef premium in view of the fact that the delay is causing financial hardship; and the schemes, if any, outstanding for this person. [11005/97]

Details of payments to the person named have already been given in reply to Question No. 232 on Tuesday, 22 April 1997.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

116 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the way in which the number of livestock units was calculated in the control of farmyard pollution application of a person (details supplied) in County Meath in view of the fact that this person and Teagasc advisers totalled less than 80 livestock units and his Department's figure is over 80. [11006/97]

The calculation of the UNITS for grant purposes takes into account all of the farm enterprises including average stock numbers, ERAD test reports etc.

In this case the actual assessment was done on the basis of 55 weanlings plus 55 other livestock, 1.5 years @ 0.6 UNITS, 68 Sheep @ 0.15 UNITS, and 4.56Ha cereals @ 1 Unit making a total of 80.66. The grant rate of 30 per cent on the investment ceiling of £45,000 applies. On this basis, the applicant was advised of the maximum grant payable in the Department's approval letter of 31 July 1995.

In subsequent Teagasc reports of 25 November 1996 and 16 December 1996, incorrect data was used in that the sheep were completely omitted in the first and the correct total was not used in the second.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

118 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has for the young farmer installation aid scheme; and if he will ensure its continuation as heretofore.[11011/97]

The scheme of installation aid for young farmers is being continued but, in common with all other schemes, it is being examined in the context of the mid-term review of Structural Funds this year.
