Ceist:76 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education if she will meet with a deputation of parents of children attending schools (details supplied) in County Galway to discuss the need for the immediate appointment of resource and remedial teachers for these schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 75 and 76 together.
I am aware of the case made by the schools in question in support of their applications for remedial and resource teacher posts. I am currently considering the possibility of making additional remedial and resource teacher posts available to primary schools for the forthcoming school year.
I assure the Deputy the needs of the schools to which he refers will be taken into account as part of this process.
I regret that as my diary is fully booked for the foreseeable future, I am unable to arrange the meeting requested by the Deputy.

Ceist:77 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education the number of the 1,188 remedial teachers who are appointed to serve in rural national schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11087/97]
The 1,188 remedial teachers in question serve a total of 2,285 primary schools.
Many of these teachers serve a number of schools on a shared basis. In many instances, the case loads involved would include schools located in a town and in surrounding rural areas. Precise details of the number of teachers serving rural national schools are not readily available.
The following list provides details of the locations of all 1,188 remedial teachers on a county basis and may be of assistance to the Deputy.
