Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

193 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Justice her views regarding the current Garda strength in the Dunboyne area of County Meath, excluding the gardaí assigned to special duties; her views on whether the Garda strength assigned to the community is sufficient for this growing community which is in close proximity to the Dublin metropolitan crime area; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12210/97]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have expressed concern, and I share that concern, about providing the type of detailed information sought by the Deputy on the grounds of security and in the interests of crime prevention generally.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are satisfied that the present policing arrangements in place for Dunboyne are adequate in meeting the current requirements of the area and that there are no plans to open Dunboyne Garda station on a 24-hour basis. However, I understand that the provision of more foot patrols in the area is currently being examined by the Garda authorities.
