I propose to take Questions No. 310 and No. 314 together.

Two State boards, the Employment Equality Agency and the Legal Aid Board, operate under the aegis of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. No appointments were made to either board in the period from 18 November 1994 to 15 December 1994, both dates inclusive.

There were 16 appointments made to Visiting Committees for prisons and places of detention on 2 December 1994. The vacancies had arisen on various dates between May 1993 and June 1994. Detailed information is set out in tabular form hereunder.

Visiting committees can consist of not more than 12 and not fewer than six members. It is not uncommon for visiting committees to operate with fewer than the maximum number of members.
