Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John Perry

Ceist:

134 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will be called for a double by-pass operation in view of the fact that his health has deteriorated dramatically and if left any longer, it will be too late, and in view of the fact that he has been on the waiting list for this emergency operation for a considerable length of time. [16194/97]

In all cases, appointments for medical treatment are allocated on the basis of medical priority. I am advised that the person concerned has been placed on a waiting list for admission. The hospital is not in a position, at this time, to give an exact date of admission.

If the person concerned feels that his condition has deteriorated or warrants more urgent attention then he should contact his general practitioner who would be in the best position to take up the matter with the consultant concerned.
