Vol. 481 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

258 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim has not received her maintenance grant for studying in university. [16336/97]

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, the reckonable income for the purposes of the award of a grant is gross income from all sources of the candidate and his/her parents or guardians where applicable. Where a candidate's reckonable income exceeds the relevant income limit, no award can be made under the scheme.

I understand from Leitrim County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme, that the reckonable income in the case of the student concerned exceeds the income limits for award of grant.
