Vol. 482 No. 5

Written Answers - Alcoholic Lemonades.

Noel O'Flynn

Ceist:

47 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the steps, if any, she has taken to control the marketing and display of alcoholic fruit drinks which are commonly known as alcopops and which are directed at young people. [17612/97]

I am pleased to inform the House that the Minister of State at my Department, with responsibility for Labour, Trade and Consumer Affairs will announce details later this month, of a proposed code of practice on the marketing, promotion and sale of all alcoholic beverages.

Whilst the principles of the proposed code will apply to all alcoholic beverages, particular emphasis will be placed on alcopops, beers, cider, coolers and spirit premixes. Subscribers to the code comprise brewers, cider producers, distillers, drink distributors and wholesalers, hotels, off licences and publicans.
A copy of the code will be deposited in the Library.
