Vol. 482 No. 5

Written Answers - Control of Farmyard Pollutions.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

108 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will reintroduce a scheme for farmyard pollution control; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18413/97]

The position following the mid-term review of the Structural Funds is that an extra £20 million in total public funds has been allocated to the scheme for the control of farm pollution. This will bring the indicative allocation for that scheme to around £117 million. The extra £20 million will go a long way towards meeting existing commitments under the scheme.

I am still considering the matter and will also be closely monitoring the progress of other large scale projects in the CSF as a whole in early 1998 to see if savings are likely to be identified in any areas which could be diverted to the scheme for the control of farm pollution.
