Written Answers. - Economic and Monetary Union.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

75 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the proposals, if any, he has to ensure that the tourism industry is prepared for the inevitable challenges and changes that will occur with the introduction of EMU. [21276/97]

The two bodies under the aegis of my Department with specific responsibility for the tourism industry, Bord Fáilte and CERT, are actively involved in preparing the industry for EMU. Bord Fáilte is planning to pursue this by means of features in trade publications, supporting the Forfás business awareness campaign, and scheduling presentations on the issue at forthcoming trade events. CERT, for its part, is also involved with the Forfás business awareness campaign, and is beginning a series of seminars for industry management to heighten awareness in the tourism industry of the systems and staff training repercussions of EMU.

I am monitoring closely the activities of both agencies to ensure that they play their part in gearing up the tourism industry for the challenges of EMU, and I am satisfied that the industry will be fully ready for the changeover.
