Bord Failte estimates that among "promotable" visitors to Ireland, that is visitors excluding conventional business travellers and travellers visiting friends and relatives, the biggest economic contribution is made by fly-drive visitors who account for 29 per cent of the revenue generated by holiday or promotable visitors.
In 1996, tourists on inclusive coach tours had the highest per capita spend at £533, compared to fly-drive visitors at £477 per head and those visiting specifically to engage in activities, such as fishing or golf, at £429 per head.
