Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Maintenance.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

231 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of State capital funding which is or has been allocated in the past ten years to provide or maintain private accommodation in maternity hospitals (details supplied). [23016/97]

The total amount of capital funding which was made available by my Department to the maternity hospitals to which the Deputy refers, in the ten years ended 31 December 1996, was £9.76 million. The figure for 1997 will not be available until the end of the year.

Many of the capital works involved, such as rewiring, refurbishment, maintenance, fire precaution works etc. covered both the public and private areas of the hospitals, and it is not possible to separate the expenditure component relevant to the private areas from that for the public areas.
