Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

278 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of staff recruited by his Department since taking office; the function and remuneration, including expenses, of each of these staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22914/97]

For the purposes of the reply it is assumed that the information sought by the Deputy refers only to those non-established civil servants employed in my ministerial office.

Three personal staff have been appointed. For details of these I refer the Deputy to my replies to Question No. 411 on Tuesday, 30 September 1997 and Question No. 97 on Wednesday, 1 October 1997 which dealt with appointments made since I took up office and the remuneration paid to each of those appointed.

The total expenses to date, including overtime and travel and subsistence, for these three staff is £1,813.

The function of the personal staff is to assist the Minister, in discharging responsibilities as a public representative and holder of Government Office in a Department of State with responsibilities for the delivery of services in the social welfare, community and family area.
