Vol. 486 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Museum.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

40 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans, if any, she has to update the Hall Redman Concept Study of 1987 in respect of the role of the National Museum; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2845/98]

The Hall Redman Concept Study was commissioned by the Commissioners of Public Works in May 1987 to consider the National Museum's premises and collections at Kildare Street with a view to identifying those areas in need of renovation and redesign and outlining a methodology for the exhibition of collections.

The 1987 study has been superceded in the light of the provision of new National Museum infrastructure, for example, at Collins Barracks and by a number of reports undertaken as a result of the work of the interim board and the caretaker board of the National Museum. I, therefore, have no plans to update the study referred to by the Deputy.
