78 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request from Kildare County Council for funding to facilitate the realignment and improvement of Cope Bridge, Leixlip, County Kildare; if he will allocate funds for this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The improvement and maintenance of non-national roads, including bridges on non-national roads, in its area is a matter for Kildare County Council, to be funded from its resources supplemented by annual grants made available by my Department. My Department has received no request from Kildare County Council for funding for Cope Bridge, Leixlip, in 1998 under the EU cofinanced scheme of grants. However, local authorities are limited in terms of the value of projects which can be submitted annually to the Department for funding under this scheme. I will announce non-national road grants to individual local authorities for 1998 on Monday, 9 February.
