321 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position on the planned college for Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1; and if these plans include the appointment of a community development officer to facilitate a wider community involvement and to support community education initiatives. My Department recently authorised City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee to seek tenders for the new north inner city community college. Under the public procurement guidelines the restricted tendering procedure will be used. This requires pre-qualification of interested firms followed by invitation to tender.
The objective is that the community college will open on 1 September 1999. My Department proposes to have discussions with City of Dublin VEC on the staffing of the new community college during the 1998-99 school year.
