Ceist:

110 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Health and Children the changes, if any, that will be effected in the role of the Irish Adoption Board following the signing of the new Co-operation Agreement with the Romanian Committee for Adoptions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3686/98]

In conjunction with the health boards, the adoption board will act as the agents of the Minister for Health and Children in the implementation of the Co-operation Agreement with the Romanian Committee for Adoptions. Its principal functions under the agreement will be the forwarding of applications for adoption of Romanian children by Irish residents to the Romanian Committee for Adoptions, the transmission of adoption follow-up reports to Romania and general liaison with the Romanian Committee for Adoptions on the implementation of the agreement.

The board's functions under the agreement are set out in the terms of the agreement as laid before the House on 30 January and approved by the House on 4 February.
