Vol. 487 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

136 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the proposed extension to a school (details supplied) in County Cork; if his attention has been drawn to the enormous burden which the cost of rented accommodation is placing on the board of management; and if he will consider designating the school as disadvantaged in view of the fact that the school is included in the Breaking the Cycle project. [3725/98]

The extension requested by the school to which the Deputy refers is one of a number of projects which will be considered in the context of future capital allocations. In order to alleviate the accommodation difficulties in the short term, my Department provides rental refund for temporary accommodation. In regard to the school's request for disadvantaged status, I am currently reviewing overall provision to combat educational disadvantage and I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school in question will be considered in the context of this overall review.
