Vol. 487 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Hanafin — the need for a commitment from the Minister for Health and Children to provide a national breast screening service; (2) Deputy Shortall — the need for a school attendance service in Ballymun and Cherry Orchard in Dublin; (3) Deputy O'Shea — the need to take action to render Faithlegg Church safe in the public interest and to preserve it as an important historical site; (4) Deputy Ulick Burke — the need for the Minister for Health and Children to make funds available to the Western Health Board to provide a proper school dental service in East Galway and to appoint a dental surgeon on a permanent basis as a matter of urgency; (5) Deputy Boylan — the failure of Bord Fáilte to establish an office in Cavan town on a full time basis; (6) Deputy Farrelly — the reason the capitation grant for primary schools has only been increased by £5 in 1998 and the proposals of the Minister for Education and Science on this issue for the next three years; (7) Deputy Perry — the action the Minister for Education and Science proposes to take to deal with the fact that in 25 schools in Sligo the measures introduced to deal with the risk to children of radon gas are proving ineffective; (8) Deputy Timmins — the Government policy on rural policing; (9) Deputy Upton — the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to fully implement the Refugee Act; (10) Deputy Gormley — the multiple application for licences to genetically engineer sugar beet in the absence of sufficient Government policy or legislative controls and (11) Deputy Sargent — to ascertain the Government's position on the Multilateral Agreement on Investment, taking into account the concerns expressed about this proposed agreement by developmental and aid agencies.

The matters raised by Deputies Hanafin, Ulick Burke, Shortall and Farrelly have been selected for discussion.
