Ceist:43 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has agreed to include technology as a subject in the 1998 leaving certificate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3599/98]
Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Syllabus.
A new syllabus on technology is being drafted by the Leaving Certificate Technology Course Committee of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. Revised syllabuses for the related subjects engineering, construction studies and technical drawing are also being drafted. The four draft syllabuses have been approved by council for consultation with the education partners and other interested groups. The consultation process will involve a large cross-section of interests including the relevant educational, business, industrial, scientific-technological, and social partners, bodies and institutions.
A final syllabus in technology will then be prepared. This syllabus will be considered by my Department and approved when all implementation issues have been addressed.
