Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Migraine Clinic.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

194 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will support the establishment of a headache and migraine clinic in Ireland; the proposals, if any, he has received for the establishment of a clinic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4617/98]

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

197 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the necessary arrangements for the establishment of the first headache and migraine clinic in Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4662/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 194 and 197 together.

I understand that the Irish Migraine Association has formally requested the establishment of a headache-migraine clinic at Beaumont Hospital. The association is currently fundraising for this clinic. Beaumont Hospital's management has confirmed that it supports the establishment of this clinic. However, it must fall to be considered within the context of the hospital's overall priorities, and the many competing development demands for its acute services. In this regard, the hospital's management has indicated that such a clinic is not included in its priorities for development in 1998.
