Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - Court Accommodation.

John Bruton

Ceist:

291 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide a detailed progress report on his Department's plans to renovate and refurbish Dunshaughlin courthouse; and when work will begin on the project. [4701/98]

Consultant architects have been appointed and have prepared initial plans for the refurbishment of Dunshaughlin courthouse. However, given the historical and architectural importance of Dunshaughlin courthouse, it will be necessary for my Department to consult with the Heritage Council in relation to any proposed refurbishment works.

My Department has recently asked Meath County Council to appoint a specialist historic building consultant to produce a conservation report on the courthouse which will form the basis of discussion with the Heritage Council in relation to the project. It is not possible to say when work will commence at this preliminary stage of the project.
