126 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received approved texts from the Attorney General's Office to enable her to sign off on the agreement for the rationalisation of the various pension schemes in relation to salaried officers and clerks in CIE; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4875/98]
As outlined in my reply to question, reference No. 22770/97, of 16 December 1997, amending schemes were drafted to give effect to the necessary restructuring of the salaried staff superannuation schemes.
Since answering this question, further legal complications have come to light and these are now being examined by my Department in conjunction with CIE as a matter of urgency.
I fully appreciate the concerns of the CIE staff and pensioners and I would like to reassure them that my Department will make every effort to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
