Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Schools Refurbishment.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

262 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delays in the construction of the physical education hall at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 6W; if he will release contract documents for tender; when construction of the hall will begin; and if he will make a detailed statement in view of his recent reply to a parliamentary question which did not address these issues. [5520/98]

My Department's technical advisers have completed their examination of the tender documentation for the proposed PE hall at the school referred to by the Deputy.

However, I am advised that the cost plan included with the tender documentation for the project exceeds the current cost limit set by the Department. The post-primary building unit will be in contact with the design team in order to achieve reductions and bring the cost plan within the Department's limits. As soon as this matter has been resolved, the project will be allowed go to tender. It is the intention of my Department to allow the project to proceed to construction when the tendering process has been completed.
