Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Capital Spending.

Joe Higgins

Ceist:

154 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Health and Children the figures for public capital expenditure granted to the voluntary mental handicap agencies, both directly funded by the Department and indirectly funded through health boards and health authorities for the years 1960-69, 1970-79, 1980-89 and 1990 to date in 1998. [8437/98]

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

171 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 204 and 205 of 10 February 1998 in relation to capital expenditure allocations for certain health services, he is now in a position to furnish the information requested; if he will now disclose this information; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8124/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 154 and 171 together.

The feasibility of assembling the information requested by the Deputies has been under consideration in my Department. There are administrative difficulties in relation to the assembly of this information, because capital expenditure relevant to mental handicap services and psychiatric hospitals is included under more general headings in the Department's capital programme and it is a difficult and protracted task to separate out the relevant components of expenditure for the lengthy period involved.
I will send the Deputies the information which it is feasible to assemble as soon as possible.
