Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Support Services.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

209 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be approved for a back to work allowance scheme. [8067/98]

The objective of the back to work allowance scheme is to provide a financial incentive to long-term unemployed people to return to work. The scheme has a limited number of places and is targeted at people on unemployment payments, one-parent family payment and permanently incapacitated people in receipt of disability allowance or blind pension. The person concerned took up employment on 26 January 1998. Prior to this she had been in receipt of disability benefit, from 12 December 1997 to 8 January 1998. Disability benefit is not a qualifying payment for the scheme and the person concerned is, therefore, not entitled to the allowance. This decision was conveyed to the person concerned on 19 February 1998.
