139 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the progress, if any, in 1998 in relation to the reopening of the live cattle trade to Libya; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8185/98]
Efforts have been continuing to reopen the live cattle trade to Libya. On 10 March, a letter was issued by the embassy in Rome inviting Libyan officials to visit Ireland for discussions on any remaining obstacles to a resumption of the trade. A response to this invitation is awaited.
