Vol. 489 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

125 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when an appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be finalised. [8298/98]

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance at a weekly rate of £81.90. Following a review of his entitlement his means assessment was increased to £160 per week, based on which he is entitled to unemployment assistance at the weekly rate of £0.70 per week.

The person concerned appealed the decision to the social welfare appeal office and the appeal officer considers that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible. The person concerned has, however, not yet responded to a request from the investigating officer to supply documentary details relating to his means, including in particular details of his spouse's earnings from 1994 when she commenced employment during the currency of his claim and which had not been brought to attention.
