Vol. 489 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dick Spring

Ceist:

152 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve 95 per cent grant aid of the capital cost of the provision of a classroom extension at a school with special status (details supplied) in County Kerry in view of the circumstances outlined to his Department by the board of management. [8351/98]

Shortly after coming into office last year, I decided to increase the level of grant assistance for capital works at special schools from 85 per cent to 95 per cent. My Department subsequently conveyed the details of this decision to the National Association of Boards of Management for Special Education.

My Department's building unit has recently advised the manager of the special school referred to by the Deputy that the level of grant assistance for the classroom extension at his school will be 95 per cent of the agreed final account for the project.
