Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Alcohol Abuse Prevention Programme.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

210 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will outline the alcohol abuse programme which he recently announced; and the cost of the programme. [10782/98]

The National Alcohol Awareness Campaign was launched on 20 April 1998. The campaign has been developed on foot of the National Alcohol Policy which set out a plan of action aimed at reducing the prevalence of alcohol-related problems in society.

The overall message of the campaign is ‘Control your drinking before it controls you’. The campaign materials consist of four posters and two radio messages which are designed to make people think about their drinking habits.

The campaign will run initially for a three week period and will be repeated before the end of the year. The cost of the campaign is £150,000 inclusive of VAT.
