Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ceist:

71 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of first time buyer grants approved by his Department in 1997 and in each of the five previous years; the number of inspectors charged with the responsibility of surveying all new properties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10492/98]

Information on the number of new house grants approved is contained in my Department's Annual Housing Statistics Bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

At present, there are 30 inspectors engaged in inspection work in connection with the payment of new house grants. These inspectors also undertake a wider range of other inspection duties related to thatching grants, houses registered under the homebond structural guarantee scheme outside the Dublin area and the issue of floor area certificates and other certification required by the Revenue Commissioners in relation to stamp duty exemption on new houses and tax incentives on housing located within designated areas.
