Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ulick Burke

Ceist:

199 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when he will have arrangements made to pay grants due to persons (details supplied) in County Galway since April 1991 as compensation for TB reactors; the reason similar grants due have been withheld; the reason animals listed in pay sheets were not in their herd numbers; the reason his Department states that these animals are included; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11830/98]

TB reactor grants will be paid to the herdowner in question when the required tax number has been submitted by the herdowner to Galway District Veterinary Office.

Due to a clerical error, reactor tag numbers were incorrectly entered on the movement permit when animals were being sent for slaughter. However, reactor tags are secondary or back-up means of identification. The scheme tags are the primary means of identifying animals. Factory returns have been checked to establish that the correct animals were slaughtered.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

200 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason 1998 area aid for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo issued incorrectly in view of the fact that his 1997 area aid had just been resolved; when the errors will be rectified; and if the mistake will result in delays in payment of the 1998 headage and premia applications for him. [11832/98]

The area aid details pre-printed on the 1998 area aid application of the person named were extracted from Department data held in March 1998. At that time all 1997 details had not been resolved and consequently the information pre-printed was based on the most recent data avilable. This will not cause delays in 1998 headage or premia payments.
