Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

357 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has received an application from a person (details supplied) in County Meath who applied for funding towards repairs to the wall and Presbyterian Church in Bective Street, Kells; the stage this application is at; if there is any possibility of an allocation of funding being made available for this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12259/98]

An application for grant assistance was made to my Department by a person (details supplied) under the 1998 conservation grants scheme under the urban and village renewal sub-programme of the Operational Programme for Local Urban and Rural Development. In my Department's letter of 16 March 1998 the applicant was informed that the application for grant assistance to carry out repairs to the church wall was unsuccessful. Due to the funding available it was possible only to provide grant assistance to 43 of the 90 applicants.

A further conservation grants scheme will be operated under the above operational programme by my Department in 1999 and it will be open to the applicant to submit an application for consideration under this scheme.
