Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

371 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will get a final decision on his appeal. [11996/98]

Following a review of this entitlements, a deciding officer assessed the weekly means of the person concerned at £131.00 from 21 January, 1998, derived from income from a holding. This assessment exceeds the maximum weekly rate of unemployment assistance payable which in his case is £67.50. The person concerned is not, therefore, entitled to payment of unemployment assistance from that date.

The person concerned appealed this decision on 14 April 1998. He has since supplied additional information which may have an impact on his means assessment and which is currently being examined by an inspector. On completion of this examination a deciding officer will review the decision. Following the revised decision it will remain open to the person concerned to appeal the decision to the independent Social Welfare Appeals Office.
