Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Internet Use.

David Stanton

Ceist:

396 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action, if any, the Government intends to take or has taken in order to prevent the Internet being used to carry out potential scams; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11899/98]

The working group on the illegal and harmful use of the Internet was set up last year and I expect to have the group's first report shortly.

While the group has briefly considered the wider range of issues involved, in line with its terms of reference, the focus for the group to date has been very much on the priority issue of child pornography and the protection of children.

The group's next task will be to look at all other illegal uses of the Internet.
