418 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if a national register for firearms exists; if not, the way in which the extent of legally held firearms in the State can be established; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11967/98]

The Garda Síochána maintain a computer based national register of firearms in respect of which firearm certificates are issued by them to residents of the State.
