Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Institute of Technology Staff.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

516 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if there are lecturers in the Dublin Institute of Technology who are still due payment for work dating back to Christmas 1996; the proposals, if any, he has to rectify the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12160/98]

The Dublin Institute of Technology is a statutory body established under the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992. Under that Act, the payment of staff in Dublin Institute of Technology is a matter for the institute itself, which appoints staff under section 12 of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act.

However, I have made inquiries and the institute has now indicated that there are three cases of lecturers seeking payment for setting and correcting examination papers dating back to 1996. The institute has further indicated that these cases are being examined and, if proven, the payment will be made shortly.
