Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teaching Posts.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

534 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science the support staff, if any, he intends to provide for a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan. [12334/98]

My Department recently sanctioned nine hours' part-time tuition for specific children in the school in question.

The school has also applied for a remedial teacher. My capacity to allocate additional remedial teacher posts in any given year is dependent on resources availability and the level of competing demand from other special needs areas. I have to determine priorities and allocate available resources to best effect.

I am currently reviewing provision across the special needs area, including the remedial area, to ensure that all available resources are deployed as effectively as possible.

I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school to which he refers will be considered in the context of any additional remedial teacher allocations which may be undertaken for the forthcoming school year.
