Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

163 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress to date in ensuring that each agency within his remit is year 2000 compliant; the cost of work done so far; the estimated cost of full compliance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11781/98]

My Department wrote to all bodies under its aegis in November 1997 requesting information on the level of work required in order to ensure year 2000 compliance. The responses received all indicate a high level of awareness of the issues concerned and showed that appropriate action is being taken to ensure timely compliance of relevant IT systems.

For your information the agencies contacted were:

— the Central and Regional Fisheries Boards (eight in total)

— Bord Iascaigh Mhara

— the Salmon Research Agency

— the Foyle Fisheries Commission

— Arramara Teo.

— eight Port Companies

— 18 Harbour Authorities

— Coillte Teo

— the Commissioners of Irish Lights.

The cost involved in ensuring full compliance is a matter for each individual agency.
